Beaver Pond Farm has been a testament to American agricultural tradition since 1780, when William Osgood traveled from Massachusetts to settle in Newport, New Hampshire. For over two centuries, this historic family farm has passed through nine generations, with both men and women dedicating themselves to preserving its rich agricultural legacy. Today, 238 acres of the farm's land are permanently conserved, ensuring that this piece of agricultural heritage will continue to serve future generations.
Becky (McDonough) Nelson represents the eighth generation of her family to own and work the land at Beaver Pond Farm. In 1984, she and her husband Ben partnered with her parents, Fred and Norma McDonough, to officially establish the farm as it operates today. Ben oversees farm production while Becky continues the family tradition that has shaped this land for nearly two and a half centuries. What began modestly with baked goods and vegetables sold from a cart soon expanded to include maple syrup, apples, raspberries, and cattle, leading to the opening of their farm store in 1989.
As a diversified farm located on the John Stark Highway between Newport and Claremont, Beaver Pond Farm has built its reputation on offering fresh, high quality produce and local products while maintaining sustainable practices that support both the land and the surrounding community. The farm raises livestock, grows a variety of crops, and operates pick your own fields where visitors can enjoy the freshest seasonal fruit. While much has changed over the centuries, the Nelson family's dedication to quality, sustainability, and tradition remains as strong as ever, earning them recognition as purveyors of the freshest and the best since 1780.
