About the Farm

Berlin Orchards has deep roots that stretch back five decades, beginning its journey as Chedco Farm under the ownership of Mr. Charles Cotting. The property transformed in 1986 when Mr. Barry O'Brien purchased the operation and embarked on an ambitious expansion of apple, pear, and peach production. Nine years later, O'Brien honored the town and the stunning 200 acres of rolling hills by renaming the operation Berlin Orchards, simultaneously constructing a large farm store and further increasing the production of fruits and vegetables grown on the land.

The story took another meaningful turn when Gerard Beirne joined the farm in 1994, dedicating himself to managing fruit production for O'Brien until 2006. When much of the farm store and land was sold that year, Gerard and his wife Sheila made the pivotal decision to purchase the remaining orchard land, ensuring the continuation of a cherished agricultural tradition. Their commitment represented more than a business transaction; it was a promise to preserve the essence of what made Berlin Orchards special.

Today, the Beirnes operate with a clear mission rooted in their genuine passion for apples and their deep appreciation for the orchard's natural beauty. They work tirelessly to provide their customers with an authentic family experience, maintaining the quiet and serene atmosphere that has characterized apple picking at Berlin Orchards for generations. Their philosophy is refreshingly simple yet profound: life is short, so get out and pick some apples.
