Boneyard Farm is owned and operated by Hannah and John Doyle, a diversified, grass-based family farm nestled in northern Vermont. Their journey began on ten hardscrabble acres in Bakersfield, where they improved the land and tested their farming concept before outgrowing the property. In March 2021, they scaled up by purchasing a former conventional dairy, transforming the 180-acre property into their current operation. With the help of the Vermont Land Trust and the farm's previous owners, their land is forever conserved as working agricultural land, ensuring future generations can benefit from their stewardship.
Hannah brings extensive experience from working on many diversified farms across New England as both laborer and manager, along with her background as an agricultural researcher and outreach professional in agronomy and food safety. Growing up in a homesteading family in central Vermont, she knew from an early age that she wanted a close relationship to the land and to produce sustainable food. John, a fence builder and jack-of-all-trades who owns and operates Mansfield Fence, manages the grass-based livestock and serves as the farm's builder, fixer, and Chief of Infrastructure. Their romance began in 2008 when they met while hiking the Long Trail, and they later married on the summit of Mount Mansfield, which remains visible from their farm.
Boneyard Farm focuses on stewarding their land to the best of their ability while producing high-quality food for their community. They strive to allow their livestock to express natural behaviors in a pasture environment and to care for, honor, and show gratitude for their animals' lives. The farm serves as a hub for sharing skills, knowledge, and passion with their community, operating with transparency and authenticity. Their sons Reuben and Dimitri help on the farm and provide tons of laughter, while Kate Zoeller joined as their integral team member in spring 2024, taking the lead on vegetable production in their market garden.
