Thirty-three years ago, when Christian and Holly Gowdy met, they both shared a passion for agriculture and animal production despite growing up in non-farm families. With the support of their families and agricultural college programs, they decided that partnering on a farm would be the perfect way to raise their own family. They purchased their first cows on their honeymoon and then acquired a small farmstead in Walpole, New Hampshire, where they have been certified organic farmers since 1995.
Today, the Gowdys continue their dedication to sustainable farming on approximately 300 acres of farmland, making all the hay and forage for their herd of cattle. Their oldest son George has returned to work as a valued member of the farm crew after receiving his Master's Degree from Saint Lawrence University, while their younger son Edward lives in Watertown, New York with his family and visits whenever possible. The farm has happily transitioned to shipping their milk directly to Stonyfield for yogurt production, keeping their milk within the New England Milk Shed.
Brookfield Farm operates as a certified organic, grass-based family operation that has been serving the community since 1995. Holly contributes to agricultural education as a teacher in the Agriculture and Horticulture program at Fall Mountain High School, while Christian manages the day-to-day farm operations. Their products can be found at the farm itself, the Farmers Market of Keene, and Pete's Stand in Walpole, reflecting their commitment to supporting local food systems and sustainable agriculture practices.
