About the Farm

Bug Hill Farm began as an unexpected love story between Sam and Charlotte Perkins, whose romance bloomed first over basil picking and culminated with a proposal during a blueberry harvest. After thirty years together and raising four children, the couple found themselves outgrowing their organic vegetable garden in eastern Massachusetts and dreaming of a rural homestead. Their three-year search for perfect farmland led them to a serendipitous discovery when a friend mentioned the virtues of black currant cordial, drawing them to Bug Hill Farm where they experienced love at first sight all over again.

The farm captivated them with its unique juxtaposition of cultivation and wildness, featuring orderly rows of currants and raspberries, an elderberry pathway to a beaver pond, and meandering woodland paths revealing magnificent 12-foot native blueberry bushes. They were equally inspired by the previous owner Kate Kerivan, whose love of the land, entrepreneurial vision, and gracious spirit had infused the farm with its welcoming character. Thirteen months after their first visit, Sam and Charlotte became the proud new owners of this special place.

As stewards of Bug Hill Farm, Sam and Charlotte have dedicated themselves to continuing Kate's vision of maintaining both cultivated land that produces delicious organic berries and native habitat that serves pollinators, birds, and wildlife. They manage their land following organic and regenerative practices to grow nutrient-dense berries while fostering biodiversity. The farm has become known for its pick-your-own berries and artisanal products including fruit cordials, shrubs, and conserves, all crafted from local fruit and natural sweeteners in their own commercial kitchen.
