About the Farm

Chris' Farm Stand began in 1970 when nine-year-old Chris Stasinos caught the corn bug, growing corn naturally on his grandfather's farm and bringing it to the road's edge in his wagon. A third-generation sustainable farmer who graduated from Essex Agricultural High School with a degree in Animal Husbandry, Chris always dreamed of owning his own farm. He started by renting fields wherever he could to grow for his small farm stand in Peabody, until a chance encounter with butternut squash changed everything.

While growing butternut squash at Splendor Horse Farm, Chris met Marlene, who was managing the horse barn. She needed hay, he grew crops, and together they bought their dream farm in Haverhill where they could grow both their family and their business. Marlene brought her own green passion to the partnership, operating her own eco-friendly carpet cleaning company for 35 years while managing the farm's marketing, events, and daily operations. As a volunteer community activist, she has worked with Team Haverhill Farmer's Markets and won Producer of the Year in 2019 for her show "Share Farm Love."

Today, the Stasinos family operates their 200-year-old working farm on 139 acres of productive land that includes its very own 55-acre island on the Merrimac River. Their son Andrew, a fourth-generation farmer, graduated with honors from UMass Amherst-Stockbridge in Sustainable Farming and runs the apple and hay business, while daughter Elizabeth served as a military police officer in the Marine Corps before returning home. The family's mission remains clear: to be responsible stewards of the land, grow healthy food to strengthen their community, and educate the public about where their food comes from while mentoring young farmers for future generations.
