About the Farm

Coppal House Farm is a 78-acre diversified family farm located on Route 155 in Lee, New Hampshire, on land that has been farmed since the 1740s. The farm is owned and operated by John and Carol Hutton, who got their start over 30 years ago in Stratham as Coppal House Station, a small operation with just six sheep, two Belgian draft horses, three cats, and a border collie. In 2005, the Huttons moved to the Lee property, a former dairy farm, and began building what has become one of the Seacoast's most beloved seasonal destinations. The name Coppal is Gaelic for horse, chosen to honor the family's commitment to farming with draft horses.

Only months after moving to Lee, the Huttons opened their first corn maze with nothing more than a folding table and an umbrella for a booth. That modest beginning has blossomed into a highly diversified, self-sustaining operation that includes a professionally designed corn maze each fall, a 10-acre Sunflower Festival in late July and early August, horse-drawn wagon and sleigh rides, and a year-round farm stand. The farm raises a closed flock of Dorper-Katahdin cross sheep, rotationally grazing them on the pastures from May through November, and maintains hundreds of free-range heritage breed chickens.

All lamb is processed at USDA-inspected facilities, and the farm stand carries Coppal House Farm products alongside local goods like maple syrup, honey, jam, popcorn, and New Hampshire-made sodas. A portion of the Sunflower Festival proceeds benefits the New Hampshire Make-A-Wish Foundation, reflecting the Huttons' deep ties to their community.
