Cote Cattle Company, formerly Double C Ranch, stands as a testament to the enduring power of family legacy in Granby, Massachusetts. Guy and Charlotte Cote began their farming journey in 2015, starting small with turkeys, chickens, goats, and pigs before expanding to cattle. The farm carries deep roots in Charlotte's family history, originally established by her grandparents in the 1940s. After years of dormancy, the property was brought back to life, transforming from a hobby into a full-time operation under the guidance of Charlotte's father, known as "Papa," whose knowledge of farm equipment and animals proved invaluable until his passing on Christmas morning 2018.
The Cotes discovered their true calling when Papa and Guy brought home their first Texas Longhorns in 2016, followed by their first registered Texas Longhorn cattle in 2019. Their passion for these majestic animals grew from both their striking beauty and exceptional beef quality. The family operates with a clear philosophy centered on raising healthy, well-cared-for animals while maintaining transparency with consumers about their farming practices. Their cattle rotate through five pastures, ensuring fresh grass underfoot for as long as possible in the New England climate.
At Cote Cattle Company, animal care remains a true family affair for this "party of seven," supported by their farm dog Gracie and Charlotte's mother Baci, who lives next door and has even traveled to Texas for horn showcases. Guy aspires to raise several cows with 90-inch horn spans or more in the coming years, while many of their gentle cattle will approach the fence for affectionate pats and scratches. The farm operates as both a breeding operation for show animals and a beef program, honoring the memory of Leon Chartier (Papa) and the generations of family members who instilled values of hard work, honesty, and dedication to the land.
