About the Farm

DeCastro Farms began its journey in 1961 when Winfield and Ruth DeCastro opened a humble farm stand on their 7-acre parcel in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Rooted in a deep love for agriculture, they cultivated and sold fresh vegetables directly to their community. Their dedication and hard work laid the foundations of a thriving family enterprise, which they would later pass on to their sons who inherited not just the land, but also their parents' devotion to farming.

Today, DeCastro Farms is proudly operated by the DeCastro family’s next generations — Stephen, Patti, Tom, Rich, and Matthew — who have worked diligently to expand the original farm to over 100 acres. Despite its growth, the farm has stayed true to its tradition of offering local, fresh produce straight from the field. Known throughout Rhode Island for their freshly picked corn, the farm also grows a wide array of vegetables and seasonal flowers. This expansion reflects not just a scaling of operations, but a sustained commitment to quality and community.

Beyond produce, DeCastro Farms showcases its dedication to supporting other Rhode Island businesses by sourcing specialty foods from local producers. Customers can find artisan cheeses, marinated meats, fresh eggs, and local honey — all curated to offer a true taste of the region. With a rich history, strong family values, and a mission rooted in community support and responsible farming, DeCastro Farms continues to be a cherished destination for fresh goods and local flavor.
