About the Farm

For over 30 years, Dismas House has been a beacon of hope for former prisoners in greater Worcester, providing an important platform for healthy reentry from prison to those most in need of recovery, decent work, and housing. What sets this organization apart is its trademark family-style atmosphere that creates the right environment for former prisoners to successfully become whole with their communities. The foundation of their work rests on the simple but powerful belief that Dismas is Family.

The heart of Dismas House beats through the collaboration of a small but dedicated staff, interns from area colleges, and committed community volunteers who join with former prisoners as they work to rebuild their lives. This unique blend of support creates an environment where healing and transformation can take root. Their farm serves as more than just agricultural land; it becomes a place where residents can work side-by-side with volunteers, finding purpose and connection through shared labor.

Sustained by a thoughtful combination of foundation support, a small amount of government funding, and private donations, Dismas House relies heavily on community involvement for everything from grocery cards to basic necessities like towels, toiletries, and sheets. They actively seek volunteers to share meals at their programs, serve as mentors, and help with fundraising and awareness efforts. The farm store, open from April through December, offers visitors a tangible way to support their mission while taking home handcrafted items and fresh produce.
