About the Farm

The Miller family has been farming on the same land longer than Vermont has been a state, carrying on a family tradition by stewarding this land for eight generations. The beautiful apple orchards, diversified crop fields, and maple sugarbush that make up Dwight Miller Orchards are located in Dummerston, Vermont, just 15 minutes north of Brattleboro in lovely southern Vermont. When Read Miller succeeded to the family orchard, the business wasn't even named after him, as Dwight Miller and Son Orchards honored his grandfather and father before him.

Read Miller attended Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst to learn about orchard and soil science, and also learned the trade on commercial orchards in Washington and nurseries in Maryland. It was at UMass that he met his future wife, Malah Anderson from Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, which proved to be a stroke of luck for the farm. Read and Malah Miller, along with their son Will, now grow, harvest, market, and deliver apples and other products to retailers around the Northeast and sell at local farmers' markets.

Malah's contributions to the farm's success over the years have been immeasurable, with her work ethic and steadfast support of many varied enterprises serving as unmatched cornerstones, in addition to her famous pickles and small-batch jams sold at local farmers' markets. The farm received its first organic certification in 1996 and is believed to be the only commercial-sized organic operation in the Northeast. They take pride and satisfaction in producing high-quality organic apples, blueberries, and more, combining their growing program with adding value to non-marketable fruit via on-farm cider and vinegar production.
