Matt Koziol spent a decade as a financial counselor before venturing into a printing franchise and then a solar company, but something was always missing. He wanted to build something of his own, so he hung up his suit and tie and set out for greener pastures -- literally. His journey began by interning for local farmers, including a memorable stint where he helped a dairy farm transition into a grass-fed beef operation starting in 2009. When COVID hit in March 2020, demand for his beef quadrupled almost overnight as grocery store shelves emptied, and the explosive growth allowed him to purchase his current 214-acre farm in New Braintree, with an additional 400-plus leased acres certified organic since 2015.
Today, Farmer Matt raises purebred Angus cattle and operates a full farm store offering beef, pork, poultry, bakery items, pantry staples, and a line of Heat and Eat prepared meals. He also runs a catering operation and serves the community as President of the Hardwick Farmers Co-Op Exchange and chairman of the Agricultural Commission of West Brookfield. His ultimate vision is to turn the farm into an agritourism destination, complete with a pavilion, butcher shop, cabins, and maybe even a brewery -- a place where visitors can experience and enjoy a part of his American Dream.
