The Hartford Plant Company is a family-rooted urban farm born from an unlikely but heartfelt journey. In 2020, Valentina—now the principal grower—relocated from Belarus to Hartford, Connecticut, amid the country’s political upheaval. Settling into her daughter Anastasiya and son-in-law Matt’s home in West Hartford, Valentina’s natural gift with plants soon transformed from a personal pastime into something much more. What began with propagating begonias and tending to flowers around their home evolved into a passion for cultivating microgreens, ultimately blooming into the Hartford Plant Company.
By February 2021, the trio had gone from kitchen-counter experiments to producing and delivering vibrant, nutrient-rich microgreens to homes and restaurants across Greater Hartford. As the business grew, so did the need for space, and by mid-2021 they moved into a commercial kitchen at the Swift Factory, a historic redevelopment project near Keney Park. Their produce now supplies restaurants across Hartford, Glastonbury, Middletown, Essex, New Haven, and Old Saybrook. The company remains a staple at the West Hartford Farmers’ Market and continues to offer convenient pickup and local deliveries to individual customers.
At its core, the Hartford Plant Company is driven by values of family, health, and sustainability. All microgreens are organically grown and harvested the same day they're delivered, ensuring exceptional flavor and nutritional potency. From spicy radish mixes to aromatic cilantro and power-packed broccoli shoots, their greens are not only a culinary delight but also a quiet revolution—offering a tangible way to eat better, waste less, and support local growers rooted in resilience and care.
