Hastings Farm is a multi-generational dairy and beef farm in Suffield, Connecticut, with deep roots in the state's agricultural heritage. The farm began when Howard Hastings transformed the family's tobacco operation by introducing a small dairy herd. His son Richie expanded the herd, and today, the farm is run by the fourth generation—Megan and Lauren Hastings—who are continuing the legacy while adding new dimensions to the farm’s offerings.
Currently milking about 100 Holsteins and Jerseys, Hastings Farm produces a variety of dairy products, including yogurt, aged cheeses, fresh milk, and ricotta. In recent years, the family also introduced natural beef production, raising their animals without antibiotics or artificial growth hormones and processing meat through a USDA-inspected, humane-certified facility. Their cows are pastured for most of the year and fed on-farm-raised hay and corn during winter months.
The farm store, open Monday through Saturday, is stocked not only with the farm’s own products but also those from neighboring producers—local eggs, honey, syrup, ice cream, jams, and even seasonal turkey from Ekonk Hill. Visitors are welcome to stop by, see the calves, or even watch the robotic milker in action. Hastings Farm continues to honor its past while pushing forward with sustainable and community-centered agricultural practices.
