Heart Beets Farm began its journey in 2014 on five acres nestled between the Taunton River and Assonet Neck in Berkley, Massachusetts. Founded by farmers Steve, Stacy, and Lauren, the farm started by renting land from Alex and Chris Houtzager that had already been certified organic since 2007. What began as a modest operation quickly grew as the farmers expanded their vision and commitment to the community.
The farm's growth tells a story of deep community connections and trust. In 2015, Heart Beets added another plot from long-term members Rick and Michelle Houghton, followed by the Moskal property in 2019. Today, the operation has flourished to manage over 40 acres throughout Berkley, demonstrating how relationships with supporters can fuel agricultural expansion and success.
At the heart of Heart Beets Farm lies an unwavering commitment to organic practices and soil stewardship. The farmers maintain their certified organic status through rigorous standards, driven by a personal mission to provide the highest quality food for families, including their own children. Their philosophy centers on building healthy soil as the foundation for great-tasting vegetables, embracing their role as stewards of the land for future generations while never taking shortcuts in their farming practices.
