High Ridge Meadows Farm is a small, family-run organic farm nestled in the hills of East Randolph, Vermont, where husband and wife team Jim and Mary have been farming since 2005. Their family includes three married sons and their wives, along with eight beautiful grandchildren who share in the joy of this 45-acre hillside farm with its unbeatable view of the Green Mountains. What began with two bred Icelandic sheep and a couple head of beef cattle has grown substantially over the years, as has their knowledge of livestock and farming practices.
From 2010 until recently, High Ridge Meadows Farm was proudly certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers, the certifying agent for the National Organic Farmers Association. While they have made the decision not to re-certify this year due to various reasons including shifting from direct wholesale marketing to concentrating on livestock sales and retail products, they continue to manage their farm using the same organic practices to which they have always adhered. Their commitment to clean, chemical and hormone free food remains unwavering as they maintain a grass-based operation, grazing in the warmer months and feeding organic hay in the winter.
The farm's mission centers on raising healthy, nutritious food through respectful treatment of both land and animals. Their cattle and sheep rotationally graze organic pastures and drink the same well water as the farming family, while chickens and ducks happily wander during daylight hours before returning to roost in the beautiful post and beam barn. This barn houses not only the animals but also serves as home to their farm store "The Rooster's Egg" and provides a stunning venue for micro weddings and farm events. In late winter and early spring, they fire up their evaporator in their new sugarhouse to produce delicious maple syrup from their own sugar maples, continuing their commitment to diversified, sustainable farming practices.
