Jericho Settlers Farm stands as a testament to the enduring connection between family, land, and community in Vermont's Chittenden County. Founded in 2002 by Mark and Christa, the farm carries forward a legacy that spans centuries, built upon two of Jericho's earliest settled farmsteads: the Chapin Homestead from 1783 and the Brown Family Homestead circa 1800. Christa grew up on this very land where her parents still live, and when she and Mark, a transplant from Washington State with dairy farming experience, made Jericho their home in 1999, they were continuing a tradition of raising healthy food on a diversified family farm. Their children, Asa born in 2005 and Hazel in 2009, represent the next generation playing and occasionally working on the farm.
What began as a vision has grown into a thriving 200-acre operation that produces 30 acres of certified organic vegetables, flowers, and herbs, plus 2 acres of crops in hoophouses and greenhouses year-round. The farm specializes in year-round vegetable production, focusing primarily on salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and root vegetables, while growing over 75 types of organic vegetables and herbs. Their commitment extends beyond mere production to encompass Vermont Organic certification and Real Organic Certification, ensuring that every crop meets the highest standards for both environmental stewardship and nutritional quality.
At its heart, Jericho Settlers Farm embodies a philosophy that views farming as community building. Mark and Christa believe that a thriving local food system is essential to a sustainable community, encompassing not just humans but all the animals, plants, and land that share their space. Their mission extends far beyond growing food to growing community through Farm to School programs, community workshops, Senior CSA shares, Vermont Farm Share fundraising, and regular donations to the Vermont Food Bank and local food shelves. They strive for work that brings joy, wonder, and accomplishment each day, while providing real nourishment for families throughout Vermont through their year-round CSA programs, farmstand, and extensive wholesale operations serving restaurants, institutions, and groceries across Chittenden and Washington counties.
