About the Farm

Mountbrook Farm is a registered Beefalo operation nestled at the foot of Vermont's Green Mountains in Dorset. The farm began its journey in 1989 when the owners started raising just a few head of Beefalo to keep their pastures mowed. What began as a simple land management solution grew into something much more meaningful as the herd expanded and the family recognized the potential to provide their community with a healthier alternative to conventional beef.

For years, Mountbrook Farm focused primarily on wholesale distribution, supplying restaurants, select stores, and schools throughout Vermont's Northshire region with their grass-fed, organically raised Beefalo. The farm built its reputation on meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to animal welfare, consistently exceeding USDA expectations for humane handling. Their calves are hand-raised, and their bulls are so gentle they love to be brushed, reflecting the farm's philosophy that no animal deserves to live in a stressed environment.

When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted the agricultural landscape, Mountbrook Farm recognized that their future required adaptation. They pivoted to emphasize direct-to-consumer sales, launching an online store and offering farm-to-table delivery across America. Today's consumers seek accountability in their food supply, and Mountbrook Farm delivers precisely that transparency. Their USDA-inspected, grass-fed and grass-finished Beefalo offers all the health benefits of bison with the marbling and tenderness of traditional beef, creating a product so exceptional that the American Heart Association recommends it as the only beef of its kind.
