About the Farm

Newmont Farm began its journey in 1987 when Walter and Margaret Gladstone were married, purchasing their Vermont farm the following year. Walter brought his agricultural expertise from SUNY Cobleskill and Cornell University, while Margaret contributed her University of Vermont education in Elementary Education. Their shared vision transformed a simple farm purchase into what would become a thriving multi-generational family operation.

Today, the farm stands as a testament to family dedication, with Walter and Margaret joined by their sons Will and Matt as co-owners. Will, who became a farm owner in 2012 after graduating from Vermont Technical College with a degree in Dairy Farm Management, manages the herd alongside his wife Brooke and their three daughters. Matt joined as an owner in 2019, bringing his SUNY Cobleskill agriculture engineering degree to bear as the farm's equipment manager, working alongside his wife Marie and their three children.

Newmont Farm's mission centers on producing the highest quality milk through excellent animal care and environmental stewardship. The operation has grown to care for 1,800 Holstein cows and 1,600 heifers at their Fairlee, Vermont location, while also cultivating 200 acres of pumpkins in the Connecticut River Valley. With thirty full-time employees who are considered family members, the farm embodies a team-oriented atmosphere focused on sustainability and community involvement, proudly serving as members of Agri-Mark, makers of Cabot cheese.
