Established in 2017, Quabbin Hill Farms is a diversified family farm nestled in the heart of the Quabbin-Swift River Valley, situated on 17 acres of sustainable farmland just half a mile from the legendary Quabbin Reservoir. The farm's fertile soil and naturally green pastures create the perfect environment for growing nutritious fruits and vegetables while raising healthy, happy chickens. In 2022, the operation expanded to Granby, focusing on laying hens and future meat birds, alongside establishing asparagus, strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry crops with dreams of their own orchard.
The farm was founded by Michael Vilcans, a passionate graduate of the Stockbridge School of Agriculture's Sustainable Food and Farming program, alongside his partner and experienced urban farmer Molly Crookes, and close friend and farm engineer Jason Awerman. Together, this dedicated team brings over 30 years of hands-on farm experience to their mission of continuing the agricultural tradition in Western Massachusetts, a place they have called home for over a decade.
Quabbin Hill Farms is deeply committed to sustainable, organic, and ethical farming practices, with a mission to expand local, organic, and sustainable food systems throughout Massachusetts. Their pasture-fed hens graze on beautiful, untreated grass and enjoy diets supplemented with fresh farm produce and GMO-free whole feed, receiving weekly treats of mealworms, flax seeds, and protein-rich greens. By providing customers with fresh, nutritious ingredients at reasonable prices, they hope to help families reconnect with their food, the people who grow it, and the beautiful land that makes it all possible.
