In 1992, physician Wayne LeClair found himself contemplating how to utilize a beautiful piece of land in Francestown, New Hampshire for agriculture. Through serendipity, he discovered Heritage Breed Galloway cattle and purchased two animals from one of the few New England breeders at the time. The breed proved perfect for his vision: beautiful animals with mellow personalities, hardy enough for New Hampshire winters, and proven in Scotland to thrive as excellent beef animals fed solely on grass.
Nestled on 270 acres at the base of Crotched Mountain in the Monadnock Region, Rocky Meadow Farm represents more than two decades of dedication to raising the most nutritious, all-natural, grassfed beef using environmentally-conscious practices. LeClair personally developed over 75 acres of grazing and hay fields from forest, clearing trees one by one and planting with the highest quality GMO-free grass seed from European companies. He installed fencing and water supplies to ensure excellent living conditions for the cattle, creating fields that lead naturally from one to another so the animals remain in familiar territory when moved.
The farm operates on principles rooted in both scientific understanding and natural philosophy. As a physician attending conferences nationwide to learn about grassfed beef, LeClair became excited by research uncovering the health advantages of cattle raised exclusively on grass. Rocky Meadow Farm uses no artificial growth hormones, antibiotics, insecticides, or herbicides, believing that we are what we eat. The Galloway cattle enjoy rotational grazing on non-GMO grasses with fresh water in every pasture, handled through low-stress interaction methods. After more than twenty years, the farm continues learning while getting closer to perfection in raising what they consider the best tasting and most nutritious beef possible for customers they regard as family.
