Orchard
Rogers Orchards stands as one of Connecticut’s oldest and most enduring family farms, rooted in the fertile hills of Southington since 1809. What began with Chauncey Merriman—a Revolutionary War veteran and early settler—has blossomed over eight generations into a thriving orchard that bridges heritage and innovation. His legacy was built on a deep connection to the land, and that ethos has been passed through centuries of family stewardship. From the early days of planting apple trees along Shuttle Meadow Lake to today’s ecologically certified practices, Rogers Orchards has remained steadfast in its commitment to cultivating wholesome, locally grown fruit.
The spirit of ingenuity has long defined the Rogers-Merriman family. From “Old Pickles” and his thousand Baldwin apple trees to Elijah Rogers’ bold decision to plant thousands of peach trees in Connecticut soil, each generation has dared to try something new. In the 20th century, Harold Rogers experimented with automated vending for apples, while his son “Bud” expanded the farm’s reach through a pioneering electric farm store. John Rogers built the bakery that now draws loyal customers year-round, and today, the family continues to evolve under the leadership of Peter Rogers, Greg Parzych, and Jeff Rogers—who returned home to launch Long View Ciderhouse, a small-batch cider operation that uses only fruit grown on the family’s land.
Now spanning 275 acres and offering over 20 apple varieties and 15 kinds of peaches, Rogers Orchards is not only a place to pick your own fruit, but a true cultural and agricultural institution. Its farm stands brim with orchard-fresh produce, fragrant baked goods, local delicacies, and beautifully curated gift baskets. As a proud Eco Apple® and Eco Peach™ grower, the farm leads with a whole-systems ecological approach that supports pollinators, biodiversity, and the long-term health of the land. More than just a family business, Rogers Orchards is a living story—of seasonal rhythms, community ties, and an enduring dedication to nourishing both land and neighbor.
