About the Farm

Pat and Jenny Ross started Sea State Foods in 2010 with a crazy idea to grow oysters in their hometown of Bourne, Massachusetts, becoming the first to cultivate oysters in the area in over 50 years. After visiting oyster bars around the world, they realized they couldn't find better oysters than the ones they recreationally harvested in their own waters. They spent years perfecting their technique in pursuit of the oyster that best captured the inimitable qualities of Buzzards Bay, building their own gear and establishing a sustainable aquaculture system powered by renewable solar energy.

What began as shucking oysters at farmers markets and local events gradually expanded into comprehensive catering services focused on local Cape Cod flavors. Operating as a mobile business from their food truck for about a year and a half, word of mouth spread about their signature raw bars and commitment to sourcing the finest local seafood directly from area fishermen. Their reputation for quality and authentic coastal hospitality grew as they created memorable experiences through food, always maintaining a deep connection to their coastal location.

In 2021, when Cataumet Fish came up for sale, the couple jumped at the opportunity to establish their brick and mortar home base. Today, Sea State Foods operates both the retail fish market and their catering business, working directly with fishers, growers, farmers and wild harvesters to source responsibly produced ingredients from the smallest radius possible. Their oyster farm remains the cornerstone of their identity, growing oysters in the wild waters where swift currents collide with wind-driven waves, creating oysters with deep cups, hard shells, and the distinctive punch of salt and brine that reflects their Cape Cod terroir.
