Harvey and Donna Smith purchased their farm in New Haven, Vermont in 1972, establishing what would become a multi-generational agricultural legacy in the fertile Champlain Valley. For over thirty years, they operated a successful dairy farm before making the pivotal decision to transition to grass-fed beef in 2006. This transformation marked the beginning of a new chapter that would expand their operation to include all natural beef, pork, poultry, and eggs, alongside traditional crops of hay, corn, and soybeans.

Today, Smith Family Farm spans 295 acres in Addison County, where three generations work together to raise Hereford and Hereford-Angus cross cattle, pigs, and poultry. Harvey brings decades of farming expertise and a distinguished background in agricultural leadership, having served in the Vermont Legislature and as USDA Farm Service Agency State Executive Director. Donna, a former educator, now fulfills her dream of sharing farm life with children through on-farm childcare. Their granddaughter AnnaJo has joined as a business partner, bringing fresh energy and her own agricultural education to help grow and diversify the family operation.

The farm's commitment extends far beyond producing quality meats. In 2011, the Smiths conserved 265 acres with the Vermont Land Trust, ensuring the land will remain dedicated to agriculture for future generations. Through intensive rotational grazing and whole-farm nutrient management, they have developed excellent pastures that provide year-round feed for their animals. Their dedication to community runs deep, with five percent of profits donated to support youth organizations and local causes, while their USDA-inspected meats remain free of antibiotics and artificial hormones, reflecting their commitment to providing healthy, affordable food for families.
