Still Life Farm began its journey in May 2010 when Curtis Stillman, a third-generation farmer with a B.S. in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Massachusetts, acquired the property and began transforming historic pastureland into thriving orchards and vegetable fields. Curtis learned farming from his father Glenn, who owns Stillman's Farm, carrying forward a family tradition rooted in agricultural expertise and deep knowledge of the land.
In August 2014, Curtis married Halley Terry Stillman, a passionate advocate for local food who graduated from Friends University with a B.S. in Field Biology and Zoo Science. Though not formally trained in agriculture, Halley's love for food naturally led her to farming, and together the husband-wife team has managed the farm full-time, dedicating themselves to sustainable cultivation and year-round production. Their family expanded in January 2020 with the addition of Kip, who has become an integral part of the farm community, participating in various farm activities and greeting visitors at markets.
Located on land that was once the historic Hardwick Poor Farm dating back to circa 1850, Still Life Farm operates on property held in permanent agricultural conservation with the East Quabbin Land Trust within the Quabbin Watershed. The farm's core principles center on wildlife stewardship, agricultural conservation, and conscientious farming practices that ensure customers receive the highest quality local produce while supporting a resilient local food system. Specializing in winter storage crops, greenhouse-grown produce, and diverse heirloom and specialty fruits, Still Life Farm has built a loyal following through their commitment to providing fresh, locally-grown produce throughout all four seasons of the year.
