Nestled along Route 179 in East Hartland, Connecticut, Sweet Wind Farm is a multi-generational haven of homegrown abundance and cherished traditions. Founded and lovingly run by the Case family, the farm’s heartbeat is its rich maple sugaring heritage, dating back more than 50 years. It all began with Arlow Case Jr., who as a young boy, learned the art of syrup making from his parents in a backyard sugarhouse affectionately called “Arlow’s Sugar Shack” in Granby, CT. Today, that tradition lives on through a modern sugarhouse built in 2005, where the family still boils sap harvested from a sprawling sugarbush spread across seven towns in two states.
But Sweet Wind Farm is far more than a sugaring operation. Susan Case brings her love of plants, flowers, and education to the farm’s daily rhythm. From cultivating vibrant blooms and greenhouse treasures to creating specialty foods and leading classes, her imprint is felt in every corner of the land. Together, Arlow and Susan tend the soil, plant and harvest crops, sell at markets, and welcome the community to their sugarhouse and farmstand. From raspberries to rhubarb, zinnias to zucchini, everything is grown with deep care and without the use of chemical sprays or fertilizers.
Sweet Wind Farm isn’t just a business—it’s a living embodiment of stewardship, family, and connection to the land. Whether you visit for maple syrup during sugaring season, wander through their colorful flower displays in summer, or browse homemade goods at their roadside stand, you’ll find more than just food. You’ll find history, warmth, and the quiet joy of a family farm doing things the right way.
