About the Farm

Tellman Hill Farm is a small, family-owned farm nestled on 187 acres of hilly fields and woods in Whitefield, New Hampshire's North Country. This land carries deep historical significance, sitting on N'dakinna, the traditional ancestral homeland of the Abenaki, Pennacook, and Wabanaki Peoples. Old cellar holes, miles of stone walls, and heaps of rusty axe heads, buckles, and horseshoes tell the story of European settlement dating back to at least the early 1800s, while the Harris family operated it as a dairy farm throughout the 1900s.

In 2019, Doug and Emily began the next chapter of farming on this land after meeting the Tellman family, who had purchased the property in the early 2000s and placed a Conservation Easement on it through the New England Forestry Foundation. The couple chose to name their new farm operation after the Tellman family in honor of their contributions to conservation and dedication to land stewardship. Doug, a wildlife biologist who grew up in Concord and spent 15 years working with creatures from ants to moose as Bird Project Leader for Vermont, brings his love of watching apple trees grow and hearing baby chicks peep each spring. Emily, a licensed professional Forester working on forest pests and diseases for Vermont, gained her farming expertise through years of raising animals, vegetables, fruit, and flowers under the guidance of incredible mentors.

Together, they are rebuilding this abandoned dairy farm as a destination apple orchard, driven by their commitment to producing the highest quality products in ways that support the health of their land and community. As passionate stewards who care deeply for this place, they embrace evidence-based practices to make the best decisions for their land, plants, and animals. Their vision centers on direct customer relationships, always happy to discuss their products and practices as they transform this historic property into a thriving agricultural destination.
