The B Farm is a third-generation, family-owned beekeeping operation with roots stretching back over 60 years. Based in Billerica, Massachusetts, the business encompasses Merrimack Valley Apiaries, which runs over 1,000 hives and was the first operation to ship bees from the east coast to California for almond pollination back in 1988. Today, The B Farm maintains 35,000 to 40,000 colonies for honey production, crop pollination, and nucleus building. They were the first beekeepers to offer nucleus colonies to beginners and hobbyists as an alternative to packages. The farm also runs its own queen rearing program, producing 50,000 to 60,000 queens annually, and has developed a close relationship with the USDA-ARS lab in Baton Rouge, contributing original stock to the Pol-Line Queen Project for varroa mite resistance. Bulk honey is available for wholesale and retail from both their Northeast and Louisiana locations.
