The Farm New Marlborough is a small family farm with outsized ambitions, spread across five hundred acres of some of New Marlborough's finest land. At its core is a simple mission: to grow quality food in a way that respects both the animals and the environment, and to rebuild a local food economy through education and example. The farm views its sprawling acreage not as conventional cropland but as a giant perennial garden, maintained by the best workers in the business: the animals themselves.
Through an intensive rotational grazing model, the farm's cows, chickens, and pigs each play a distinct role in an orchestrated cycle of regeneration. Cattle are moved to fresh paddocks daily, pruning the grass and converting solar-grown biomass into natural fertilizer. Laying hens follow behind, spreading manure, controlling insects, and depositing their own nitrogen-rich contributions to the soil. Pigs rotate through forest and grassland, rooting and aerating the earth to boost microbial activity. The result is healthy, abundant growth above and below the surface, and some of the finest pastured meats a farm can produce.
With the acquisition of the former Kolburne School property in the spring of 2017, The Farm continued to stretch its legs, working to return agriculture to the village of New Marlborough. The operation offers grass-fed beef, pastured pork, pastured poultry, and eggs through its online store with next-day delivery, as well as a self-serve farm store open seven days a week from dawn to dusk. It is a quintessential New England farm practicing modern regenerative agriculture, providing real food to the residents and businesses of the Berkshires.
