About the Farm

The Gateway Farm is the labor of love of Trent and Abby Roleau, a young family of six who have turned their shared agricultural roots into a thriving Vermont operation. Trent, 34, grew up surrounded by draft horses, beef cattle, and the maple syrup tradition that runs deep in his family lineage, while Abby, 31, was raised on a dairy farm in Weybridge and Shoreham. Both earned degrees from Vermont Technical College in farm management, with Abby also completing studies at the University of Vermont in Community Development and Applied Economics.

After purchasing their farm in 2014 through Vermont Land Trust, the Roleaus spent years working toward their dream of sustainable farming. In 2018, they finally boiled their first maple syrup from their own maple trees, marking a milestone in Trent's generational passion. The property, admittedly a "fixer-upper" and "work in progress," has become the foundation for their diversified farming operation where they raise British White cattle, pork, poultry, and lamb on pastures while maintaining their natural and sustainable management practices year-round.

The Gateway Farm operates as a true family enterprise, with Trent continuing his carpentry work full-time to support the family while dreaming of farming full-time, and Abby managing the maple shipping business from home while raising their four children: Sophia, Kennett, Bradley, and Levi. Their commitment to quality extends from their traditional wood-fired maple syrup production to their pasture-based meat program, where animals spend their days roaming the land and consuming grass. The Roleaus take pride in their single-source products and the direct connection they maintain with customers who support their mission of carrying on Vermont's long-standing agricultural traditions.
