About the Farm

Toplands Farm, nestled on 600 pristine acres in Roxbury, Connecticut, is a working landscape rich in history, tradition, and community spirit. Originally a dairy farm, it was purchased in 1942 by A. Richard and Dorothy Diebold using a “lock, stock, and barrel” contract—acquiring everything from the land and livestock to the very furniture in the farmhouse. Over the years, the Diebold family cultivated a diverse array of crops and livestock, building a life deeply rooted in the rhythms of the land. Today, that same spirit endures in every corner of the farm, from the grazing cattle to the lovingly preserved antique equipment.

Now specializing in pasture-raised beef, pork, chicken, and eggs, Toplands Farm is committed to responsible, transparent agriculture. Their beef cattle graze freely across open pastures, supplemented with farm-grown hay and a modest amount of grain for optimal flavor and tenderness. Their Berkshire pigs, known for their depth of flavor and exquisite marbling, are raised with care and fed a mix of garden vegetables and natural grains. Even the chickens are thoughtfully housed in mobile coops and are part of a rotational grazing system that reflects the farm’s deep respect for both animals and land.

But Toplands Farm offers more than food—it is also home to the Double D Living History Farm, which maintains the largest collection of restored antique tractors and farm equipment in the Northeast. Founded by Dudley G. Diebold, who began collecting as a boy, the museum showcases over 300 machines, an operating sawmill, and countless historical artifacts, all lovingly preserved on-site. Through its living history displays, pasture-raised meats, and longstanding family legacy, Toplands Farm continues to nourish both body and spirit while honoring the agricultural traditions that shaped this corner of New England.
