About the Farm

Since 1997, Treat's Maple Farm has been crafting pure wood-fired maple syrup from 100% sugar maple sap in the heart of New Hampshire. The farm represents a passion project born from deep New England roots, where the magic of sugar maples has held generations in awe of the sweet bounty growing at their very doorsteps. Bruce Treat, who grew up in pre-interstate Vermont during what he calls that mythical time, learned the craft from childhood experiences watching his parents tap trees in their yard and his mother boil sap in the kitchen until locals intervened, leading his father to bring home tin half gallons from house calls every spring.

Marilee Nihan brings her own rich heritage to the operation, having grown up on a northern New Hampshire family farm where her father sugared every spring. As a child, she was impressed into service piloting a D-2 dozer hauling collection tanks, placed on the driver's seat while her father hopped off and hollered steering directions as they kept pace with the crawler emptying buckets. This hands-on childhood experience with maple production shaped her understanding of the craft that would later become central to Treat's Maple Farm operations.

Today, the farm manages five small maple orchards totaling 800 taps, exclusively from sugar maples with no red maple sap collected. Their commitment to quality drives every aspect of production, from collecting sap fresh daily during the late winter through early spring harvest to processing it immediately in their modern sugarhouse. The farm produces and bottles syrup in daily batches, embracing the natural variations in color and flavor that different weather conditions create rather than combining production days to meet arbitrary international color grades.
