Vermont Trade Winds Farm is a family operation in Shoreham, Vermont, run by Tim and Loraine Hescock. Tim grew up maple sugaring on the current farm, which his parents purchased in 1966, and has been tapping trees and gathering sap his whole life. Tim and Loraine started the mail-order portion of the business in 2003, beginning with fresh balsam wreaths and garland at Christmas, followed by maple syrup the next year. The farm is now their full-time business.
All syrup is produced from the farm's own Vermont sugar maple trees and boiled on a wood-fired evaporator. The renovated 1800s post-and-beam barn houses an indoor farm store with a tasting bar where visitors can sample up to 10 syrups on tap, including barrel-aged and infused varieties. The outdoor farm stand features the farm's own raspberries, peaches, and during the holidays, a large selection of balsam fir wreaths and Christmas trees (cut-your-own and pre-cut). The farm also offers cross-country ski trails, a lighted ice rink, snowshoeing, sledding, and sugarhouse tours, making it a year-round destination.
