About the Farm

Wandering Moose Farms began as a homecoming story rooted in family land and childhood memories. The farm's founder grew up in Northwestern Vermont near her family's retired dairy farm, spending countless hours exploring 300 acres before her family moved to Connecticut. After returning for weekends and vacations as an adult, a company closure in 2005 provided the perfect opportunity to move back to the 200-year-old family farmhouse in November 2006, initially as a caretaker but ultimately as a permanent home.

The farm officially took shape when the founder married William in 2007, marking the beginning of their agricultural journey together. Chickens arrived in fall 2008, the first Christmas trees were planted in spring 2009, and Wandering Moose Farms was born. What started as homesteading with a garden and greenhouse built from reclaimed windows gradually expanded into a thriving operation with over 100 chickens for egg production, prolific gardens for fresh produce, and eventually rabbits for meat. The birth of their son Harold in 2011 intensified their desire to work on the farm full-time rather than commuting to off-farm jobs.

Now entering their seventeenth year on the farm, this small, family-owned, diversified operation in Franklin, Vermont has evolved into a complete farming enterprise. They began selling Christmas trees in 2016, and the founder was able to leave her full-time off-farm job in 2018. The farm strives to provide the freshest food using sustainable practices from happy livestock and soil, working towards complete self-sufficiency while serving their community with beautiful Christmas trees and healthy vegetables, meat and eggs.
