About the Farm

Since 2015, We Grow Microgreens, LLC has been transforming a once-unused plot of land in Boston's Hyde Park into a vibrant urban farm. Founders Lisa Evans and Tim Smith partnered with the City of Boston to secure the space and, with enthusiastic support from the community and funding from the USDA, the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture, and the City itself, created the farm from the ground up. With the help of local youth, they cleared the land, built a 4,600-square-foot water and energy-efficient glass greenhouse, constructed two high tunnels, landscaped a community walking path, and filled the space with raised garden beds.

Today, the farm flourishes with edible flowers, microgreens, herbs, vegetables, and medicinal plants, all grown with a deep commitment to sustainable and chemical-free practices. Their Hyde Park greenhouse features glass walls for maximum light transmission, rainwater collection tanks, heated flood benches, solar-powered roof vents, and innovative Soliculture solar panels that allow red light to filter through to plants. The farm operates with renewable energy through a SmartFlower solar energy system and even maintains a completely off-grid greenhouse that runs entirely on solar power.

We Grow Microgreens, LLC has been recognized as a minority-owned business enterprise by the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office and proudly identifies as a Black-owned business. They welcome SNAP, WIC, and HIP customers and serve the community through their farmstand, farmers markets, and CSA program. The farm represents not just agricultural innovation but community transformation, turning unused urban land into a thriving space that nourishes both people and the environment.
