About the Farm

Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires at 1400 feet elevation, Maple Corner Farm stands as a testament to American agricultural perseverance. Founded by John Ripley in 1812 when he moved from Hartford, Connecticut to settle in Blandford, the farm's roots run deep through eight generations of the Ripley family. His son John B. Ripley established the current Granville homestead in 1835, creating what would become a continuous farming operation spanning over two centuries.

The early decades saw the Ripley family raising Red Devon cattle and training them as oxen teams, later transitioning to quality Hereford cattle that earned recognition at regional fairs. Kenneth L. Ripley made history in 1927 by showing the first grand champion baby beef at the Eastern States Exposition. Maple sugaring began in 1840 and has grown into a 4000-tap operation complete with a maple museum and pancake restaurant. The farm evolved from its original beef and dairy focus while maintaining its agricultural heritage through each generation of Ripley stewardship.

Today, Maple Corner Farm operates as a diversified agricultural enterprise under Leon K. Ripley and Joyce M. Ripley and their sons. The farm produces pure maple syrup and maple products, offers pick-your-own blueberries during summer months, and maintains grass-fed beef and pasture-raised pork operations. Winter months bring cross-country skiing and snowshoeing across 20 kilometers of groomed trails, while the maple sugar house opens to visitors from mid-February through mid-April. This working family farm continues to honor its 8-generation legacy while adapting to serve the modern community through agritourism, recreational activities, and sustainable farming practices.
