About the Farm

Hillary and Ben are first-generation farmers who grew up in New Hampshire with a longtime dream of living in Vermont. When the stars aligned in 2018 to work with Vermont Land Trust to move to the old Robinson farm in Strafford, they decided to take the leap and never looked back. Their journey brought them to a remarkable piece of land comprised of 270 acres of hay fields, pasture, and forest set along the border of Strafford and Sharon Vermont, complete with an iconic round barn - a striking 10-sided structure built for dairy cows in the early 1900s.

Hillary serves as the farm guru and main day-to-day operator, often seen driving the tractor, zipping around on the UTV doing pasture chores, or hoeing the garden. Anything and everything on the farm falls within her wheelhouse. Ben complements her efforts as the farm project problem solver, building animal houses, fixing broken equipment, and setting up new systems when he's not working at his full-time day job as a computer engineer.

Winding Brook Farm operates using sustainable practices designed to put critical nutrients back into their soils and pastures. This approach improves the quality and quantity of feed while helping sequester more carbon from the atmosphere. Their flock of sheep are intensively rotated across hilly pastures, moving to fresh forage every two days, with chickens following close behind to dig through the manure and eat bugs, working to improve the soil. They strive to produce healthy and high quality products for their community while minimizing their impact on nature and the environment.
