Barrett Hill Farm stands as a testament to agricultural tradition and family dedication, having been family owned and operated since 1752. This multi-generational farm began its modern incarnation in the 1970s when fields were reclaimed and barns were built, marking the beginning of what would become a comprehensive farming endeavor that has shaped the land for decades.
Matthew LeClair manages and runs the farm alongside his family, bringing scientific expertise to their agricultural practices with his Bachelor's degree in animal science and minor in plant science from the University of New Hampshire. The farm operates under a philosophy that Matthew describes as having "the ability to do what we need to do when we need to do it without one hand tied behind our backs," utilizing science-based approaches while working closely with Cooperative Extension and NRCS to implement best management practices.
The family's mission centers on producing excellent quality products while preserving the land for both their family and their community's consumption and enjoyment. They emphasize conservation and preservation as paramount for future generations, employing integrated pest management, crop rotation, and no-till practices when applicable. The farm takes tremendous pride in caring for their livestock through rotational grazing systems and home-growing the majority of feeds for their animals, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety for both their family and customers.
