Cedar Mountain Farm is a diversified family farm in Hartland, Vermont, owned and operated by Stephen Leslie and Kerry Gawalt at the Cobb Hill Cohousing community. The farm focuses on soil health using organic and regenerative methods, practicing management-intensive grazing on 55 acres with a 1.5-acre no-till market garden. Some field work is done with two teams of Norwegian Fjord draft horses -- Stephen is a published author of two books on the subject, including "Horse-Powered Farming for the 21st Century."
The farm raises registered Jersey, Holstein, and Ayrshire cows, producing raw milk and beef. Kerry oversees herd health and morning milking, while also co-managing Cobb Hill Cheese, an on-site cheesemaking operation. They grow 26 varieties of vegetables and herbs and offer a vegetable CSA with weekly online menu options or prepackaged shares, running 22 weeks in summer with winter storage shares also available. The farm hosts a 4-H dairy cattle club, farm camp for children, and educational tours and workshops. The land is under permanent conservation with the Upper Valley Land Trust.
