The Choiniere Family Farm represents four generations of dairy farming excellence in the beautiful Northwestern corner of Vermont. Founded when Phillip and Bernadette settled the farm in 1945, it was quickly passed down to Henry Choiniere, who moved there at age 14 and began taking charge early on. After marrying Raymonde in 1961, Henry raised three talented children, all of whom remain involved in the farm operations to this day.
In the 1980s, Guy Choiniere stepped into leadership at age 19, eventually marrying Beth in 1993 and raising their two children on the farm. The family made a pivotal decision in 2002 to transition from conventional to organic farming, shipping their first load of certified organic milk to Organic Valley in July 2005. By 2014, they embraced an even greater challenge, transitioning to 100% grass-fed milk production with remarkable results. Today, they milk 80 very happy grass-fed organic dairy cows while also raising 80 free-range laying hens, 50 broiler chickens, 6 pigs, 6 ducks, and 2 cuddly dogs.
The farm's mission centers on growing the healthiest products so their customers can live healthier lives, with an unwavering belief that true health starts with the soil. Their practices maximize production, animal health, and nutrient levels while sequestering carbon, building soil organic matter, supporting soil life, and reducing erosion. Through rotational grazing, bedded pack housing, manure injection, and working with the NRCS on water quality initiatives, they have invested over $200,000 in preventing soil erosion into the Rock River. The next generation continues this legacy, with Mathieu bringing new ideas as he prepares to eventually take over, while his partner Julia contributes through her bakery and social media efforts.
