About the Farm

Dog Days Farm is a vegetable farm in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, owned and operated by Jack Rixey. The farm grew out of Tracie's Community Farm, which Jack managed for seven years before purchasing the property. Jack first arrived in New England for college, studying Sociology and Spanish at Marlboro College near Brattleboro, graduating in 2014. His path to farming was shaped by a transformative trip to Nebraska in 2015 to witness the migration of sandhill cranes, during which he read Wendell Berry's writings on agriculture and realized he wanted to pursue a life on the land.

After working on farms in northern California and the Pacific Northwest, Jack returned to New England and joined Tracie's Community Farm as a crew member. He learned the craft under managers Kristen and Sarah Wilson, and when they departed, he stepped into the role. When the original owner decided to sell, neighboring farmers Tom and Mary Frazier of Elephant Rock Farm purchased the land and held it until Jack was ready to buy it himself, and Dog Days Farm was born. The name is a nod to the ancient origins of the phrase and farming's deep relationship with the past.

Dog Days Farm's mission is to grow fresh, healthy produce for its neighbors and friends. The farm offers CSA shares, sells at three farmers markets, and operates an on-site farm store. Jack collaborates with local food banks and pantries in the Fitzwilliam area, partnering with organizations like the Jaffrey Food Pantry and the Cheshire County Conservation District to make fresh produce more accessible.
