About the Farm

Golonka Farm began its journey in 1956 when Bernard and Mary Golonka planted their first cucumbers for the local pickle factory. What started as a modest agricultural venture would eventually blossom into a beloved family operation that has served the community for nearly seven decades. The farm's humble beginnings reflected the entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to quality that would define its legacy.

Bernard and Mary's youngest son Jim carried forward the family tradition, transforming the operation from a simple table with baskets on the front lawn into a thriving farm stand business. In the late 1980s, Jim built the permanent farm stand that serves customers today. Working alongside his wife Jan, daughter Emma, and other family members, Jim has carefully expanded the operation while maintaining its intimate, family-centered character. Their commitment to freshness drives them to pick vegetables throughout each day, ensuring customers receive the highest quality produce possible.

The farm has grown thoughtfully over the years, expanding from its original 20 acres to 60 acres total, with 25 tillable acres in active production. Jim and Jan's decision to purchase additional property behind the farm demonstrated their dedication not only to growth but to conservation, saving valuable farmland from development. Today, while Golonka Farm is particularly celebrated for its sweet corn, the family cultivates a diverse array of vegetables using Integrated Pest Management techniques. Jim also maintains beehives that serve the dual purpose of crop pollination and honey production, embodying the farm's philosophy of sustainable, interconnected agriculture.
