About the Farm

Nestled in the unique soil and climate of the Champlain Islands, Hackett's Orchard sits on South Hero land that has been producing exceptional apples for over 100 years. The Hackett family acquired this special property in 1967, and since then, four generations have dedicated themselves to the year-round care and cultivation that makes their orchard flourish. What began as a family venture has grown into a beloved destination that welcomes visitors from across the country as well as local island residents to their 50-acre farm.

Today, Hackett's Orchard stands as a testament to sustainable farming and land stewardship, operating on land conserved through the South Hero and Vermont Land Trusts. The family has cultivated an impressive diversity of offerings, growing 50 varieties of apples alongside fresh-pressed cider, handmade cider donuts, apple crisp, and other Vermont specialties. Their commitment to quality is evident in every product, from their carefully selected apple blends for cider to their daily-fresh bakery items that delight visitors of all ages.

Beyond their role as farmers and business owners, the Hackett family has woven themselves deeply into the fabric of their community. They sponsor annual Easter egg hunts for local children, serve as a featured stop for cyclists taking the Local Motion bike ferry, and participate in numerous Champlain Islands events throughout the year. Their commitment to giving back extends to regular contributions to the Grand Isle Food Shelf and Vermont Foodbank, as well as participation in the Food for Thought program that provides summer meals for children. In this special place of distant mountain views and spectacular sunsets, the Hacketts continue the tradition of hard-working island settlers, preserving both the land and the community spirit that makes the Champlain Islands so remarkable.
