Nestled in the southern tip of Litchfield County, Maywood Farm is a rare fusion of classic elegance, agricultural heritage, and environmental stewardship. The estate, though private, spans forty acres of meticulously cultivated gardens, vineyards, and fields that produce an impressive array of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. With a view that stretches to the Berkshire foothills, Maywood’s grounds are both cultivated and conserved — carefully balanced between aesthetic beauty and functional productivity.
What sets Maywood apart is not only its breathtaking setting and traditional architecture, but its commitment to sustainability and wildlife preservation. The estate employs environmentally sound practices including IPM (Integrated Pest Management), supports birdlife through bluebird trails and berry-producing plantings, and hosts beehives to encourage natural pollination. As members of Audubon International and the first Connecticut property to join the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood forestry program, Maywood sets a standard for conscientious land management. Their agricultural methods follow guidelines set by the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA), and their products reflect this care: from the rich soil comes fresh produce, maple syrup, honey, and exquisite wines.
While not open to the public year-round, Maywood opens its gates annually for a single day in August in support of the National Garden Conservancy, welcoming guests to tour the grounds and experience its splendor. In the meantime, their harvest is available through local outlets like the Bridgewater Village Store and select Connecticut wine retailers and restaurants. With roots in the land and an eye toward preservation, Maywood is a quietly enduring gem in the Connecticut countryside.
