About the Farm

Milkweed Farm was established in 2018 on a property with deep agricultural roots dating back over 200 years. The farmhouse, built by Freeman Hancock in 1865, was once home to a thriving chocolate business run by Priscilla Hancock, who sold her trademarked "Priscilla Hancock Candies" worldwide from the 1920s until 1956. The Hancock family raised chickens, sold fresh eggs, and participated in local agricultural fairs, creating a legacy of dedication and ingenuity that continues to inspire the farm today.

The current farm is the vision of Mallory, who discovered her passion for agriculture through an interdisciplinary college course about food systems. After working briefly in New York City, she enrolled in the Youth Farm Urban Agriculture Certification Program in Brooklyn and graduated in 2016. Connected with the property owner at a fortuitous time, she presented her ideas and transformed the historic property into a fully functioning fruit and vegetable farm.

Milkweed Farm operates as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation, offering weekly shares of fresh, locally grown vegetables to members. The farm focuses on seasonal, nutritious produce and welcomes locals, transplants, and visitors alike. Mallory's commitment to growing food represents her chosen way of influencing the many systems that make up our world, honoring both the land's agricultural heritage and her own mission to make a positive difference through sustainable farming practices.
