About the Farm

Tucked into the hills of Kent, Connecticut, Mountain View Farm is a family-run oasis of certified organic abundance. The land itself has a deep-rooted agricultural legacy, dating back to the 1700s when it first operated as a working farm. In the late 1800s, it came to life as both a farm and boarding house under Lena and William Durfee. Today, that history breathes through every row of heirloom tomatoes, every fragrant bouquet, and every jar of maple syrup lovingly bottled on-site.

At the heart of the operation are Maria and Vincent LaFontan, stewards of the soil and spirit of Mountain View. With just three acres in active production and a network of hoop houses, the LaFontans embrace the philosophy of farming as a craft—prioritizing flavor, diversity, and soil health. They employ crop rotation and enrichment techniques to ensure not just high yields, but truly exceptional food. Beyond produce, the farm is home to a flourishing flock of free-range laying hens and seasonal pigs, and also crafts small-batch jams, pickles, and herbal goods.

The farmstand at Mountain View is open daily from April through November, a welcoming stop for locals and visitors alike. Their vibrant offerings can also be found at the New Milford Farmers Market and on the tables of select area restaurants. Whether you're savoring a warm peach, sampling a spicy pickled scape, or simply strolling their stand on a summer day, Mountain View Farm offers a taste of New England at its most heartfelt and honest.
