Stone's Throw Farmstead is the dream realized of Connor and Jess, two young farmers who fell in love with food and farming while studying at college and never looked back. After years of wanting to make their Vermont vacations more permanent, they moved from Maryland in 2021 to start looking for land, and by July 2022, they had moved onto the farm they had been dreaming about since their first date. They named their farm Stone's Throw because that's about as big as they want to get and as far as they want their food and flowers to be enjoyed.
The couple started their farm in August 2022 and are now entering their third growing season on their tiny farm nestled in Vermont's Green Mountains in the little town of Shrewsbury. They grow mixed vegetables and flowers on half an acre using minimal tillage, human-power, and regenerative land ecology practices. Their farm is bordered by the Cold River and Gould Brook and hugged by the Green Mountain forest, creating an idyllic setting for their sustainable operation.
At Stone's Throw Farmstead, Connor and Jess believe farming can be one of the best ways to care for their community and planet while mitigating climate disruption. They grow certified organic vegetables and flowers using practices that steward the ecological resources of their land, nourish their community, and pivot the paradigm of extractive food production. Their vegetables and flowers are certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers and the Real Organic Project, and they practice small flock sustainable shepherding in the fields surrounding their vegetable gardens, offering pasture-raised lamb to their community.
