About the Farm

Sugarmomma's Maple Farm is a family-owned maple syrup producer nestled in Northwood, New Hampshire, right off Routes 4/9/202, midway between Concord and Portsmouth. The Locke family operates this authentic operation where they make syrup the old-fashioned way, by boiling the sap of local maple trees over a wood fire until it reaches that perfect thick and sweet consistency. They acknowledge the work is hard, but believe the result is absolutely worth the effort.

The farm extends far beyond maple syrup production, embracing a sustainable lifestyle that includes raising various livestock. Their family members each have specialized roles, with Nicholas raising chickens for eggs and meat and also handling sales of baby chicks, bunnies, and goats to help others start their own flocks. Caleb focuses on raising quail for both meat and eggs, while the farm is also home to Rosie, their Pinzgaur cow who serves the dual purpose of providing both meat and milk, along with sheep named Coco and Channel, and Bob, the proud sheep father.

During their annual open house events, particularly during Maple Weekend, the entire Locke family comes together to share their knowledge and passion with visitors. Deb works in the sugar house, teaching guests about the maple syrup making process from tree to table, while husband Ron serves up delicious pancake breakfasts with chef Ricky. The sons introduce visitors to the farm animals, and various family members handle syrup tastings, operate the store, and create fresh maple cotton candy. Their commitment to community support is evident through their year-round presence at Seacoast farmers' markets, where they share their award-winning maple syrup and homemade products.
