The Colony is a one-of-a-kind beekeeping facility in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, built on land purchased in 2017 that continues the 300-year-old tradition of agriculture from the original Thompson Farm of the early 1700s. Founded by third-generation beekeeper Rick Reault, The Colony opened on April 1, 2019, after Rick and his wife Sue spent 13 years running their business out of a home garage. The facility is home to three product lines: Carlisle Honey, which produces raw local honey from over 1,000 hives across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont; New England Beekeeping Supplies, one of the largest beekeeping supply operations in the region; and Honeybound Meadery, one of only two meaderies in Massachusetts open for tours, which has won four Gold Medals and a Silver Medal at the prestigious Mazer Cup International. The Colony also features 124 solar panels powering its operations and offers a unique visitor experience with meadery tours led by Rick himself.
