About the Farm

The Theodoros Homestead sits on land that has been cultivated since 1710, making it one of the oldest agricultural landscapes in historic Littleton, Massachusetts, in an area known as 'Scratch Flat.' In the spring of 1931, during the heart of The Great Depression, Greek immigrants James and Marea Theodoros purchased the property from Henry F. Works, becoming only the fourth family to farm this land in over two centuries. With a deep passion for farming and love for the land, they converted what was originally a dairy farm with a large apple orchard into a fruit and vegetable operation, proudly naming it SpringDell.

The farm evolved through the generations as James' brother Tasso joined the business in the mid-1940s, adding corn, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, watermelons, and specialty crops. When James' health failed in 1981, his granddaughter Paula stepped in as head operator, continuing the family tradition alongside her parents Gerry and Helen, Uncle Tasso, and Marea. Initially operating as a wholesale business selling to supermarkets and into Boston, the farm shifted in the late 1980s to direct sales through their historic white farmstand, quickly developing a large and loyal customer base.

Today, the farm operates as Theo's Market Gardens under the ownership of Jamie, Paula's daughter, who represents the next generation of this farming legacy. Having worked alongside her grandparents, Uncle Tas, and mother from childhood, Jamie developed an early passion for agriculture, embodying the family philosophy of planting fields, nurturing growth, and putting smiles on customers' faces. The farm now serves as Littleton's longest running and continuously operated market garden for nearly ten decades, operating alongside an incredible team of passionate employees who keep both the fields in production and the counters of their historic roadside market bustling with community activity.
